The Kempsey Macleay Off Road Club battled difficult track conditions all weekend with a number of sections having to be cut from Saturdays program. Track conditions deteriorated further (in some areas) on Sunday and with Recovery Crews faced with dangerous circumstances in which to carry out their duties Club Officials were faced with the difficult decision to declare the event with one Round remaining. The second Group in Heat 2 was contested Sunday morning and was followed by Heat 3 that saw 30 cars face the starter. The Kempsey Team of Michael Spokes / Alan Hetherington (Super 1650 #216) were leading the race at the time but broke an axle on the back section of the course with only one lap remaining. Murray Bignell (Pro Buggy #996) was also in contention for the outright victory only to suffer axle failure while on his last lap. A steady drive by Jeff Thomas / Louise Dorrian, in the very slippery track conditions, saw their consistency rewarded with victory. The drive of the race undoubtably belonged to the Kempsey Team of Chris Browning / Jaison Green (Sportsman #308) who dominated the Prologue, lost almost a lap with steering problems in Heat 1, but charged back through the field to win their Class and finish 5th Outright in a time of 2:04:43.96. 4th Outright was Justin Guy / Danny Richardson (Pro Buggy #19) in 2:02:43.39. 11th July 2009 : Day one of the 2009 Wittitrin 200 was tough on both officials and racers. Saturday dawned fine and sunny, however rain in the preceding days had wreaked havoc on the course, although this was not to become apparent until competitors had undertaken their reconnaissance. Several sections of the track were deemed too wet and dangerous so officials had to cut those, and later in the day the track conditions in some of the tree sections became difficult to negotiate, with some Heats having to be stopped to allow recovery personnel to access the effected areas. As a result of the delays only the Prologue and one and a half Heats were held, with Group 2 in Heat 2 set to be contested as the first race on Sunday. The Prologue was an entertaining affair with the Kempsey Macleay Off Road Club Team of Chris Browning / Jaison Green blitzing the 40 car field in their #308 Sportsman Buggy finishing with a time of 5:17.65. Dale Chadburn (Pro Buggy #32) would finish second with 6:03.66 and Glen Spizzo (Pro Buggy #26) third on 6:07.19. After one and a half Heats of racing Phil Page / Dustin Baque (Prolite #148) are the outright leaders on 1:08.50.56. The Kempsey Team of Michael Spokes / Alan Hetherington (Super 1650 #216) are second on 1:09.37.71 with Jeff Thomas / Louise Dorran (Pro Buggy #51) third on 1:16.18.60. Chris Browning / Jaison Green had problems in Heat 1 dropping down to 22nd, but have since fought back to 12th. Murray Bignell has been consistent, without being spectacular, in his Pro Buggy (#996) to be running 4th (1:16.42.79), with Damien Penfold / Jarrad Eveleigh (Prolite Buggy #129) rounding out the top 5 (1:17.53.70). Last years winner Darren Stocks is well down the field after damaging his machine in one of the slippery tree sections in Heat 2 and failing to finish. Crowd numbers were very good.
